Pre & After Care – Micropigmentation

Microblading|Nano Brows|Powder Brows|Combination Brows

Newly microbladed eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing process.

The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin and has not yet settled in completely. The colour of the pigment will soften gradually. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment in the cotton swab as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the colour pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial colour and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows. Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 in your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure will cause the colour pigment to fade away more quickly.

Pre Procedure

Make sure you are feeling fit and well before your microblading procedure and please reschedule your appointment if you have an outbreak of cold sores or shingles. If you are currently taking antibiotics then you will need to have completed your course for at least 2 weeks prior to the microblading procedure.

Precare

In order to achieve the best results please follow the below guidance. Failure to follow will result in poor healed results.

  • Do not tan or have intense exposure to the sun two weeks before the treatment
  • No botox 4 weeks prior
  • Do not take fish oil or Vitamin E one week prior
  • Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products 2 weeks prior to the procedure
  • No waxing or tinting of the brows 2 weeks prior to the treatment
Certain things can thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding which will result in poor pigment deposit
  • Please do not take pain relief such as ibuprofen or aspirin, this will thin the blood (if prescribed by GP then a letter of consent to stop taking these 48 hours prior to the treatment will be required)
  • No alcohol 24 hours prior
  • No caffeine drinks on the day of treatment
  • No exercise prior to the procedure

Aftercare

Failure to follow these aftercare instructions may result in infection, poor pigment retention or discolouration of pigment

First, wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap.   You must gently clean your brows with the wipe provided or alternatively, rinse your eyebrows with cooled boiled water and a cotton pad. Both of these would need to be done every hour until you go to bed  (at least 6 hours) after the microblading procedure, pat dry with a clean tissue and apply the post-care cream. Apply the post-care cream with a cotton swab and use no aggressive movement and/or manipulation of the skin.

Continue to wash your brows daily, morning and night to keep them clean and do not get makeup in them for 10 days.

You must apply the post-care cream in your eyebrows as a barrier before you have a shower and a few times a day with a minimum of at least two times daily. Apply the post-care cream with a cotton swab and use no aggressive movement and/or manipulation of the skin. Make sure your hands are completely clean before caring for your eyebrows.

If you have oily skin then only apply a thin layer of post-care cream less frequently.

The following must be avoided during all nine days post microblading procedure:

  • Increased sweating
  • Practising sports
  • Swimming
  • Hot sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi
  • Sun tanning or salon tanning
  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic Acid
  • Picking, peeling or scratching of the microblading in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
  • Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris
  • Spicy foods
  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol in excess as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
  • Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles or motorcycles
  • Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab
  • Giving blood – it is suggested that you do not give blood for 6 months following treatment
  • MRI Scans – this procedure shows up as an artefact on the scan – some clients may experience a tingling sensation. Please notify your radiologist.

Post Procedure Tips

  • Before showering apply a visor or cling film to protect your eyebrows from moisture. Turn the temperature down so there’s less steam and avoid the direct spray of the shower on your face.  Keep them as dry as you can for 10 days.
  • Try to sleep on your back and use a fresh pillowcase
  • Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post microblading procedure, if this happens press the area, do not pick or scratch. However, experience has shown that by following these aftercare instructions these symptoms may quickly disappear.

Fine Line Tattoo

Pre-care:

  • Ensure you are well hydrated before the appointment
  • Moisturise the area that will be tattooed in the days leading up to the appointment (not on the day of the procedure), healthier skin means better results
  • Exfoliate the area 1-3 times a week

What you should not do before before your appointment:

  • Please do not drink alcohol the day before your appointment
  • No tanning, fake tanning, chemical peels, sunburns, major cuts or scrapes, in the area to be tattooed within a month prior to your session
  • No extreme weight lifting in or near the area to be tattooed at least 2 days prior to your session to prevent unnecessary swelling & soreness
  • Please do not bring the entire family or crew unless they are also getting tattooed. One on one experience is much better for the artist’s concentration
  • Please do not use any numbing products on the area to be tattooed and please do not come in under the influence of any drugs or alcohol
Certain things can thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding which will result in poor pigment deposit

Aftercare:

  • Once the tattoo is done, tagaderm (second skin) will be placed and cover the tattoo. For the best healing results keep the tagaderm on for 1-3 days (3 is recommended for better results)
  • Remove tagaderm and gently wash the tattoo with mild soap and water and pat dry
  • Continue to gently wash the tattoo once a day and use a moisturiser (bepanthen is recommended) 5-7 times a day for the following 10 days

Immediately after finishing the tattoo, the skin around the tattoo will be red. Redness can vary from person to person but it’s completely normal to see. It’s also normal to see the tattoo weeping a fluid, this is called plasma fluid which again can vary in how much is released for each person. There may also be some excess ink that is released from the tattooed skin. The tagaderm covering the tattoo can get a buildup of excess ink and fluid that’s left the skin. This may cause the tattoo to appear blurry but once the tagaderm is removed the tattoo will be perfectly normal. Leaving the tagaderm on for as close to the 3 days as possible is very beneficial as it protects the tattoo from outer elements such as water.

During the healing process it’s important to not let the tattoo dry out. This can be prevented by applying the balm 5-7 times a day. During the first few days you will likely experience itching around the tattoo. There can also be scabbing on the area which is why it’s so important to not itch the area. This is the stage where there may be slight peeling and occasional itching but overall the tattoo is basically healed. Depending on your skin tone the ink will sometimes heal bluer or greener, this is just the way the ink eventually heals. It’s encouraged to continue applying moisturiser to the tattoo for the full 2 weeks.

To ensure a longer tattoo looks as good as possible for the future it’s important to hydrate the tattoo with moisturiser everyday. You must use SPF over the tattoo when in the sun or tanning beds to ensure no unnecessary discolouration and fading.

Things not to do in the healing process:

  • No direct sunlight to the area through healing
  • Do not scratch or pick scabs
  • Do not wear tight clothing over the tattoo while healing
  • Do not immerse your body in water while healing e.g no swimming, hot tubs, baths
