Pre & after care

Newly microbladed eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing process.

The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin and has not yet settled in completely. The colour of the pigment will soften gradually. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment in the cotton swab as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin.

Once the healing of the skin starts taking place it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the colour pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial colour and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows. Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 in your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure will cause the colour pigment to fade away more quickly.

Pre-procedure

Make sure you are feeling fit and well before your micropigmentation procedure and please reschedule your appointment if you have an outbreak of cold sores or shingles. If you are currently taking antibiotics then you will need to have completed your course for at least 2 weeks prior to the micropigmentation procedure.

Precare

In order to achieve the best results please follow the below guidance. Failure to follow will result in poor healed results.

Before Procedure

Do not tan or have intense exposure to the sun two weeks before the treatment
No botox 4 weeks prior
Do not take fish oil or Vitamin E one week prior
Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products 2 weeks prior to the procedure
No waxing or tinting of the brows 2 weeks prior to the treatment

24-48 Hours before procedure

Certain things can thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding which will result in poor pigment deposit

Please do not take pain relief such as ibuprofen or aspirin, this will thin the blood (if prescribed by GP then a letter of consent to stop taking these 48 hours prior to the treatment will be required)
No alcohol 24 hours prior
No caffeine drinks on the day of treatment
No exercise prior to the procedure

Aftercare

Failure to follow these aftercare instructions may result in infection, poor pigment retention or discolouration of pigment

Day 1 (Day of Procedure)

First, wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap. You must gently clean your brows with the wipe provided or rinse your eyebrows with cooled boiled water and a cotton pad. Both would need to be done every hour until you go to bed (at least 6 hours) after the microblading procedure, pat dry with a clean tissue and apply the post-care cream. Apply the post-care cream with a cotton swab and use no aggressive movement and/or manipulation of the skin.

Day 2-10

Continue to wash your brows daily, morning and night to keep them clean and do not get makeup in them for 10 days.

You must apply the post-care cream in your eyebrows as a barrier before you have a shower and a few times a day with a minimum of at least two times daily. Apply the post-care cream with a cotton swab and use no aggressive movement and/or manipulation of the skin. Make sure your hands are completely clean before caring for your eyebrows.

If you have oily skin then only apply a thin layer of post-care cream less frequently.

Things to Avoid for 9 days after procedure

The following must be avoided during all nine days post microblading procedure:

Increased sweating
Practising sports
Swimming
Hot sauna, hot bath or jacuzzi
Sun tanning or salon tanning
Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic Acid
Picking, peeling or scratching of the microblading in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris
Spicy foods
Smoking
Drinking alcohol in excess as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles or motorcycles
Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab
Giving blood – it is suggested that you do not give blood for 6 months following treatment
MRI Scans – this procedure shows up as an artefact on the scan – some clients may experience a tingling sensation. Please notify your radiologist.

Post Procedure Tips

Before showering apply a visor or cling film to protect your eyebrows from moisture. Turn the temperature down so there’s less steam and avoid the direct spray of the shower on your face. Keep them as dry as you can for 10 days.
Try to sleep on your back and use a fresh pillowcase
Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post microblading procedure, if this happens press the area, do not pick or scratch. However, experience has shown that by following these aftercare instructions these symptoms may quickly disappear.
